Operating Room Technician

Operating Room Technician

Duties and Responsibilities:

They are also referred as surgical technicians or surgical technologists.
They help in the operation room by assisting them. They are responsible for having all the surgical tools, and other equipment needed to operate. During the surgery they assist doctors by handing them the instruments they need during the surgery and for counting the sponges and needles before and after the surgery. They also take the specimens to the hospital laboratories for analysis, and after operations they take the patients to the recovery room.

Average Salary: $16,000-$22,000

Educational Requirements:

A high school diploma or GED is required, some vocational and junior colleges offer programs in operating room technology, and the training may be taken at large hospitals. The program may be from 1 to 2 years, the students receiving training in medical terminology, physiology, and sterilization methods. When the training is finished the student must pass an exam by the Association of surgical technologists to become certified.

I do not think that I would like to become this because I feel like it is too much responsibility having to hand every tool to the doctor during the surgery.
